League of Conservation Voters

"Record"
30-second ad run in FL, announced Oct. 18, 2004.

[Music] Male Announcer: George Bush and Dick Cheney.  Big Oil’s best friends.

They supported oil drilling off Florida’s coast, threatening our beaches.

Halliburton got billions of our tax dollars in no bid contracts.

And they gave big oil billions in tax breaks.

And special exemptions from cleaning up their pollution.

George Bush and Dick Cheney.  A record for Big Oil.  Not Florida.

Notes and Observations:  This is the first ad in a $3 million, two-week television campaign that the LCV termed "the largest single-state media campaign in the history of environmental activism."  LCV's press release also highlighted the on-the-ground efforts of the LCV-led Environmental Victory Project in Florida.  "LCV's Florida campaign is headquartered in Orlando and includes 27 staff and over 750 volunteers.  LCV has knocked on over 145,000 doors in key swing precincts in Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties," the release stated.
