MoveOn.org's PAC held an "online primary" from Tuesday, June 24th 12:00 am to Wednesday, June 25th 11:59 pm.  This event attracted considerable media attention, even being billed as an unofficial start to the primary season.  If a candidate attained 50 percent of the vote in the primary, he or she would gain the MoveOn endorsement and a significant boost.

MoveOn.org, founded by Wes Boyd and Joan Blades in the wake of the Lewinsky scandal, claims 1.4 million members.  Through the MoveOn.org PAC, members contributed $2.3 million to congressional candidates in 2000 and  $4.1 million to congressional candidates in 2002 races.
