E-mail Interview |
In a February 3, 2003
e-mail Kowalski responded to several questions:
Q: What is your previous political involvement/experience? A: I've been interested in
politics for a long time now, and I have gotten first hand experience working
as a Gore volunteer in Connecticut, as a summer intern at the DNC in 2001,
and doing political research with a professor here at Yale over the past
year.
Q: What motivated you to put the site up? A: Like most people, I first
heard about Edwards during the veepstakes in 2000. I didn't think
much more about him until Early 2001, when I read a Jason Zengerle article
in the New Republic entitled "South Central." I caught a few of his
appearances on programs like "Crossfire," read some more about him, and
became convinced that he was the best Democratic candidate out there. I
basically support Edwards for three reasons: 1. He has a compelling personal
story. 2. I like his stands on the vast majority of the issues. 3.
Perhaps most importantly, I think he has the best chance of beating Bush.
Q: What you've gotten from doing it? A: In terms of tangible achievements, I've signed up student volunteers at dozens of different campuses around the country. There isn't much work that we can do at this early stage in the campaign, but it's a valuable pool of people to draw on when the race starts to heat up. The site has also been getting a lot of visitors and media attention, which is another one of my goals: to raise awareness about Edwards. I'm convinced that the more people get to know John Edwards, the more they'll like him. If my site can help get the word out, I feel like it's a success. |
