In the Dugout
May 1, 2002.  Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle answers reporters questions during a regular "dugout" session.  On this day he and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt did a joint press conference.  Daschle led off announcing that Senate will move ahead on Trade Promotion Authority and the ANDEAN trade bill.  However, he warned that the package must include health care benefits for dislocated workers.  "I would hate to see all of this trade collapse--this trade legislation collapse because the far-right wouldn't allow health care to be part of TAA [Trade Adjustment Assistance program]," Daschle stated.  He also reacted to a proposal on prescription drugs put out by House Republicans earlier in the morning. >
