January 10, 2003--Howard Dean, in his first full day as former governor, received the inaugural Wellstone Award from the AFL-CIO for his support of the nurses at Fletcher Allan Health Care in Burlington during their efforts to organize.  In a letter he wrote, "If  I were a nurse, I would vote to unionize."
