	June 4, 2003--Paul R. McKenzie, a volunteer supporter of Dean, speaks at the Meetup. After a Meetup in early May at the Hawk & Dove, activists started organizing DC for Dean. Jessica Robin (below), a scientist who does contract work for NASA, coordinates fundraising; Kirstin Fearnley, who works for the literacy coalition DC Learns, coordinates visibility; Rudi Riet, a help desk analyst at Georgetown University, is the website coordinator. The Meetup phenomenon is remarkable because it has prompted many such talented people to mobilize for Dean while requiring scant direction from or expenditure of resources by the campaign. Dean's ability to build such a base of supporters could ultimately trump the so-called money primary.
