Fund for a Healthy America and Dean for America
Mid-July 2002.  The headquarters of Gov. Dean's political activities are located on the second floor of this modest building in Montpelier.  Kate O'Connor, a longtime aide who ran Dean's campaigns for governor and is his secretary of civil and military affairs, oversees the efforts.  The plan is to eventually move to Burlington so as to be able to take advantage of the larger population and pool of students there.
O'Connor has help from two young assistants.1  Chris, a student from Boston who is going to Seton Hall, started in May 2002.  Abigail Trebilcock (above) started June 1.  She graduated from UVM on May 19 with a major in history and a minor in political science; in her final semester she interned in Gov. Dean's office.  Her first task upon arriving was to get the data base in order.  Trebilcock said that the recent New Republic article on Dean (July 1, 2002 cover date) triggered a lot of interest; when people call she takes down their information.

Map on the wall shows some visits to Iowa.

Note.
1. Dean's political operation is quite small by comparison to those of other 2004 presidential prospects, whose leadership PACs at this time typically have about ten people working for them.
