-Gov. Dean visited Iowa on January 14-17 and 18-19, 2004.
"People Powered Road Trip: America's at the Wheel"
On the early evening of January 14 he plans to do a tour kick-off rally at Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
On January 15 he plans to hold a "Caucus for Change" pancake breakfast at the Fort Dodge Museum Opera House in Fort Dodge; held a "Caucus for Change" event at Carroll High School in Carroll, where he received the endorsement of Amb. Carol Moseley Braun; make an appearance at Windrow Restaurant in Creston; and attend a house party at a private residence in Chariton.
On January 16 he plans a "Caucus for Change" pancake breakfast at Hotel Ottumwa in Ottumwa; a "Caucus for Change" event at William Penn University in Oskaloosa; a "Caucus for Change" event at Aces Teen Club in Newton; and a "Caucus for Change" event at Iowa Valley Community College in Marshalltown.
On January 17 he plans a "Caucus for Change" pancake breakfast at Music Man Square in Mason City; a "Caucus for Change" rally at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School in Council Bluffs; and a "Caucus for Change" rally in the lobby at Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City.

On January 19 he stopped by the Iowa Commission on the Status of African Americans' Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial event at the Iowa State Historical Building in Des Moines; planned a "Caucus for Change" rally at the Iowa State University Molecular Biology Building in Ames; and held a People Powered Post Caucus Party at Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines.

On the morning of January 11 he plans a "Caucus for Change" pancake breakfast at Waterloo Center for the Arts in Waterloo; early afternoon he plans a "Caucus for Change" event at the Oelwein Community Plaza in Oelwein; and in the evening he plans to participate in Brown and Black Forum at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines.
On the morning of January 12 he plans a "Caucus for Change" pancake breakfast at Central College in Pella; in the afternoon and evening he plans a "Caucus for Change" event at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant; a "Caucus for Change" event at LULAC Hall in Fort Madison; and a "Caucus for Change" event at the Best Western, Grand Ballroom in Burlington.

Arriving from New Hampshire on January 6, he did an endorsement event with former Sen. Bill Bradley at the campaign's Iowa headquarters in Des Moines; participated in the National Public Radio Debate at Iowa State Extension Campus in Des Moines; and  plans hold a "Caucus for Change" event at Summerset Inn & Winery in Indianola; attend a house meeting in Polk County; and attend another house meeting in Polk County.

On November 14 he started the day with a series of three "Commit for a Change, Caucus for Dean" rallies,
meeting students in Mauker Union at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls; in the Gage Building at Coe College in Cedar Rapids; and at Iowa State Memorial Union in Ames; in the evening he was the keynote speaker at a re-election fundraiser for State Senator Herman Quirmbach at the home of Doug and Wanda McCay in Ames. 
Starting on the afternoon of November 15 in Des Moines he participated in the presidential forum at the National Summit of Agriculture & Rural Life at Hotel Ft. Des Moines; held a pre-dinner rally at Central Campus High School (Melissa Ethridge did not make it); and attended the Iowa Democratic Party's Annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner at Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

Winckler, a supporter, at Union Station in Davenport; then rallied with supporters there.  On September 28 he began the day with a meeting of African-American activists in Davenport; appeared on CBS' Face the Nation; delivered a speech on elderly care (billed as a major policy address) at Dubuque Area Lifetime Center; met with Jackson County Democrats at the Tabor Farm in Baldwin; addressed the Immigrant Worker's Freedom Ride at St Ambrose University in Davenport; and headlined a fundraiser for Rep. On August 14 he met with Jasper County Democrats at Uncle Nancy's Coffeehouse & Eatery in Newton; visited the Iowa State Fair; and participated in the Governor's Conference on Public Health at Drake University in Des Moines; held a jam session with Michael "Hawkeye" Herman at Blues on Grand in Des Moines; and appeared at Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald's fundraiser at the Score Pavilion in Nevada.

Dean visited Iowa on July 29-30, 2003.  On July 29 he held a town hall meeting at Council Bluffs Community Hall; held a series of four "Get on Board with Dean" events, meeting with undecided caucus goers at Dunlap Livestock Auction in Dunlap; at Lohff-Schumann Memorial Community Center in Holstein; at Danny's Sports Spot in Cherokee; and at the Townhouse Restaurant in Sac City; wrapping up the day he attended a Carroll County Democrats fundraiser at the City Park's Southside Shelter House in Carroll.

-Gov. Dean did a "Get on Board" bus tour in eastern and southern Iowa on July 24-25, 2003
On July 24 he joined a Dean Corps chapter volunteering at the Johnson County Crisis Center food bank in Iowa City; met with undecided caucus goers at the Copper Lantern Restaurant in Sigourney; met with unemployed Iowans, members of the chamber of commerce and Iowa Workforce Development representatives to discuss jobs and the economy at Taso's Restaurant in Oskaloosa; appeared on Vermont Public Radio's "Switchboard," a live call in program, from the Hotel Ottumwa in Ottumwa; and met with undecided caucus goers at the Hotel Ottumwa. 
On July 25 he rode a leg of RAGBRAI, 11.5 miles from Bloomfield to Troy, with supporters; met with undecided caucus goers at the Skean Block Restaurant in Albia; met with undecided caucus goers at the Historical Museum of Chariton; met with undecided caucus goers at Redman's Pizza and Steakhouse in Osceola; officially opened his Iowa campaign office in Des Moines and met with undecided caucus goers there; and addressed delegates at a reception at the AFSCME Council 61 Convention at the Four Points Sheraton in Des Moines. -Gov. Dean visited Iowa on July 17-18, 2003.  Starting in Cedar Rapids on the afternoon of July 17 he had coffee with unemployed Iowans at Al & Irene's BBQ House; attended a Linn County Democrats reception at Muddy Waters Restaurant; and spoke at the IBEW 11th District Regional Dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel; proceeding to Coralville he attended a roast in honor of Rep. Dick Myers at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center.  On July 18 he taped "Iowa Press" at the Iowa Public Television studios in Johnston, then held a press conference where he posed his 16 questions about President Bush's leadership in taking the United States to war with Iraq.  Counties: Linn, Johnson, Polk.

Dean visited Iowa on the afternoon and evening June 14, 2003.  In Waterloo he attended the Juneteenth Celebration in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center at Hawkeye Community College; did his first Iowa "House Call" (discussing his Healthy America initiative) at the home of Dennis Harbaugh and Juanita Williams; and spoke at a Flag Day fundraiser for state Rep. Don Shoultz at the Shoultzs' home.  Proceeding to Iowa Falls, he met with Hardin County Democrats at the home of Mary Rose Brown.  He concluded the trip as Dr. Julie Thomas' guest at the Iowa Democratic Party's Hall of Fame Dinner in Des Moines. Dean visited Iowa on January 18-19, 2003.  In the morning he appeared at events in Des Moines: the Iowa Pharmacy Association's political breakfast at the Marriott Hotel; a Democratic Women Activists Network (DAWN) meeting at the home of DAWN president Marty Anderson; the Iowa Democratic Party state committee meeting at the Iowa Democratic Party offices; and he met with members of education community at Noah's Ark.  Early in the afternoon he met with Democrats at Midtown Café in Newton.  In the evening he spoke at the Linn County Democratic Sustaining Club Banquet at the Prairie Hill Pavilion in Marion.  On January 19 he met with Linn County Democrats at  Gwen's Restaurant in Lisbon and met with Mt. Dean visited Iowa on December 16-18, 2002.  On the evening of December 16 he attended a reception at the home of  Dan and Marcia Rogers in Cedar Rapids.  On December 17 he met with the editorial board of the Des Moines Register in Des Moines (he announced his selection of Jeani Murray as state director) and late in the afternoon he attended a reception at The Homestead Building in Des Moines.  On December 18 he did an interview with the Ames Tribune in AmesCounties: Linn, Polk, Story.
 

-Gov. Dean visited Iowa on October 9-10, 2002.  (In the morning of October 9 he did a healthcare roundtable with Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Stormy Dean in Omaha, NE).  In the early afternoon, he, along with Mike Reasoner, candidate for Iowa House (District 95), spoke to an American politics class at Graceland College in Lamoni; he then did a meet and greet/reception at the College with students, faculty and community members.  Later in the afternoon Dean, along with Howard Hart, candidate for Iowa House (District 97) and Paul Shomshor, candidate for Congress, did meet and greets with local activists at Lied Center Community Center in Calinda.  He then did another meet and greet with activists at Shenandoah Elementary School in Shenandoah.  In the evening he attended an AFSCME- and labor-sponsored reception for Doug Struyk and Steve Gorman, candidates for Iowa House (Districts 99 and 98), at Firefighter's Hall in Council Bluffs.  On the morning of October 10 he campaigned with Shomshor, then headed back to Omaha, NE. -Gov. Dean started out his October 5, 2002 visit to Des Moines, Iowa doing lunch with Democratic women at the Racoon River Restaurant in downtown Des Moines followed by a reception with Bradley supporters at 800 Locust.  He spoke at the Iowa Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Dinner and attended related events that preceded it (Host Committee reception; Humphrey Club reception; Majority Club reception) at the Polk County Convention Complex.   Sens. -Gov. Dean visited Iowa on September 23-24, 2002.  On the afternoon of September 23 he started in Cedar Rapids: campaigning with John Hedgecoth, candidate for state representative (District 37) and Renee Sneitzer, candidate for state Senate (District 19)--working a downtown lunch spot and a senior center, and doing some fundraising calls for Hedgecoth; and holding a press conference with 2nd district congressional candidate Julie Thomas at Johnson Elementary School.  In the evening, he did three events in Iowa City: attending a fundraising reception for Thomas at a private home; attending a fundraising reception for University of Iowa Young Democrats at the University of Iowa; and addressing students in the 2nd Floor Ballroom of the Memorial Union at the University of Iowa.  On September 24 he started the day with a breakfast for Mark Shear, candidate for state Senate, at Kolonial Town House in Kalona; campaigned with Keith Kreiman, candidate for state Senate at Hotel Ottumwa in Ottumwa; did a lunch for Julie Thomas at Regina's Restaurant in Fairfield; interviewed at the Hawk Eye newspaper in Burlington; did a press conference with Pat Deluhery, candidate for State Auditor, and John Reissan, candidate for state representative, in Burlington; met with the co-chairs of Muscatine County; and concluded with a dinner for Deluhery in DavenportCounties: Linn, Johnson, Washington, Wapello, Jefferson, Des Moines, Scott.

September 5 breakfast for Jeanette Randall, candidate for Iowa House (District 23), and Buchanan County Democrats at the Independence Senior Center in Independence; lunch for Roger Thomas, candidate for Iowa House (District 24), at Guttenburg River Cafe in Guttenburg, followed by visit to Clayton Ridge High School; dinner for Pat Tyler, candidate for Iowa Senate, at the Red Fox Inn in Waverly; reception for Ann Hutchinson, 1st district congressional candidate, in Waterloo. September 6 breakfast for John Norris, 4th district congressional candidate, at Fisher Community Center in Marshalltown, followed by a press event there; brunch for Rep. -Gov. Dean visited Iowa on July 15-16, 2002.  On July 15 he began in Omaha, NE. (breakfast with state Democratic party leaders, activists and labor leaders) and then did events in Sioux City, Iowa: met with Iowa State Education Association, did a press conference with 5th district congressional candidate Paul Shomshor, followed by a meet and greet with county chair Al Sturgeon Jr. and Democratic candidates and activists from Woodbury County, and concluded with a press availability and reception with Shomshor.  On July 16 he began with a live radio interview with Mark Stubbs on KMNS, News Talk 620 AM in Sioux City, then headed to Council Bluffs, where he and Shomshor toured Alegent Health Systems (hospital), held a press conference there and then did a fundraiser for Shomshor.  Counties: Woodbury, Pottawattamie.
 

-Gov. Dean visited Iowa on June 24-26, 2002.  On June 24 he did a private lunch with a small group of Democratic activists at the Raddison Hotel in Davenport; met with Ed Tibbetts of the Quad-City Times; met with Clinton County Democratic activists at the Democratic headquarters in Clinton and attended a reception hosted by La Metta K. Wynn, Mayor of Clinton, at City Hall.   On June 25 he was in Des Moines for various private meetings-breakfast with Dave Neil, UAW president; meeting with JoAnn Zimmerman, first female lt. gov. of Iowa; meeting with the editorial board of the Des Moines Register; lunch with First Lady Christie Vilsack; meeting with Attorney General Tom Miller.  He attended a Stonewall meet and greet event at the Plaza and was guest speaker at a reception for Angela Connolly, candidate for Polk County Supervisor, at the home of Mary Tabor and Phil Roeder in Des Moines.   On June 26 he did a breakfast event with Maggie Stewart and Black Hawk County Democrats at Country Kitchen in Waterloo; was special guest at a reception for Jeff Danielson, candidate for Iowa House of Representatives, District 20 (Waterloo); did an interview with Charlotte Eby, managing editor of the Courier; proceeded to Cedar Rapids and was special guest at at Linn County Phoenix Club fundraiser at the home of Bob Rush; and special guest at a Linn County Democrats Central Committee meeting at UAW 104 Hall.  Counties: Scott, Clinton, Polk, Black Hawk, Linn.
 

-On May 21-22, 2002, Gov. Dean visited Des Moines, Iowa.  On the evening of May 21 he spoke at a fundraiser for the Senate Truman Fund at Salisbury House in Des Moines.  The trip was mostly private meetings: May 21-lunch at veteran Dem. activist Phil Roeder's office; Mike Blouin, president of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and Richard "Red" Brennan, a consultant; Marti Anderson and Barbara Boatwright, activists for DAWN; Mike Tackett; Debbie Katterhorn and Leslie Place, co-presidents of Iowa Young Democrats; Eric Tabor, chief of staff to AG Tom Miller.  May 22 breakfast with Dave Neil, UAW president; Secretary of State Chet Culver; lunch with Howard Hagen and attorneys in his firm.  Counties: Polk.
 

-On May 6-7, 2002 Gov. Dean visited Iowa.  Dean met privately with Sen. Pat Deluhery at the airport and then had lunch with him at the Rusty Nail in Davenport.  He met with the editorial board of the Quad-City Times.  Dean met privately with Mary Ellen Chamberlin, president of the Riverboat Development Authority.  Proceeding to Iowa City  he met with the Gazette's James Lynch.  He met with Univ. of Iowa law professor Josie Gittler.  He spoke at the First Annual Nurses' Speak Out, sponsored by the Iowa City Nurse Coalition, at the Iowa City Public Library.  Dean finished the day at a fundraiser for Iowa Democrats' Truman Fund (House Democratic Caucus) at the home of Rep. Dick Myers.  On May 7 Dean had breakfast with Pat McCabe.  He spent the morning in Fairfield, holding meetings at Ernie Robson's office, touring town hall and downtown with Mayor Ed Malloy, meeting Mayor Bob Wynne and city council members at Vedic City (two miles north of Fairfield), and doing a lunch reception at Regina's Restaurant.  [The Nurses' Speak Out and the Truman Fund fundraiser were the major highlighted events on this trip].  Counties: Scott, Johnson, Jefferson.
 

-Gov. Dean visited Des Moines, Iowa on March 27-28, 2002 to campaign for 4th district congressional candidate John Norris.  On the evening of March 27 he did a fundraiser for Norris at a private home; the next morning the two met with health care professionals at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.  On both days he held private meetings with Democratic activists, including a March 27 stop at Dubuque Night at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.  He also meet privately with Gov. Vilsack during this trip.  Counties: Polk.
 

-Gov. Dean visited Iowa on February 22, 2002, campaigning for 2nd district congressional candidate Julie Thomas in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.  The two began with a lunch with Johnson County business owners and attorneys at a downtown restaurant in Iowa City.  In the afternoon they met with law school professors; toured University of Iowa children's hospital with Dr. Frank Morris, hospital director; and met with UI president Mary Sue Coleman.  In the evening Dean and Thomas did fundraisers for her campaign at a private home in Iowa City and at a private home in Cedar RapidsCounties: Johnson, Linn.
