-Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (IL-2) campaigned for Dean
in
Iowa on January 17-19, 2004. On the evening
of January 17 he appeared as a surrogate speaker for Dean at the
Arab American Institute's voter rally at the Islamic Center in Cedar Rapids
and at the 2nd Annual Scott County Democratic Banquet at the Mississippi
Valley Fairgrounds/Expo Building in Davenport. A Chicago Sun-Times
article placed him at Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church and then at a nearby
school in Waterloo on January 18.
-Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) did one event in Iowa,
meeting with Jewish leaders, families and voters at a house party in Des
Moines on January 15, 2004.
-AFSCME President Gerald McEntee travelled around
Iowa
in the "Big Green Caucus Machine" RV on January 14, 2004.
-Rob Reiner and Martin Sheen held a series of events
around Iowa on January 13-14, 2004. Schedule: On January
13 they started at Lewis Central Middle School in Council Bluffs; appeared
at Olsen Student Center at Morningside College in Sioux City; and at Music
Man Square in Mason City. On January 14 Holiday Inn in Davenport;
Hamburg Inn No. 2 in Iowa City; Cedar Rapids Art Museum; Maucker Student
Union at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls; and finally they joined
Dean for his tour kick off rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines..

at LULAC in Davenport, Iowa on January 12, 2004.
-Vice President Al Gore was scheduled to campaign
for Dean in Iowa on January 9-10, 2004. His schedule:
On the evening of January 9 rally at the Perfect Storm at Storm
Headquarters on 1312 Locust in Des Moines; "Caucus for Dean" kick-off at
South Woods High School in West Des Moines. On January 10
"Caucus for Dean" events at Big Muddy's Landing in Burlington; at Williams
Intermediate School in Davenport; at University of Dubuque Alumni Hall
in Dubuque [with Dean]; and at Roosevelt Middle School in Mason City.
Rep. Maurice Hinchey (NY-22) campaigned for Dean
in Mason City, Iowa on January 7-8, 2004. On January
7 he met with family farmers and attended a Meet Up. He later made
calls to Democratic voters, before returing to New York.
Rep. Xavier Becerra (CA-31) attended a Meet Up
and made calls in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 7, 2004.
2003
-Tim Craft, former President
Jimmy Carter's campaign manager and Chip Carter, Jimmy Carter's
son campaigned for Dean for several days around December 10, 2003.
On the afternoon of December 10 they were scheduled to appear at the Cafe
Mana Java in Dubuque,
Iowa. On December 13, Joe Trippi,
Tim Craft and Chip Carter were scheduled to to meet with local supporters
and raise awareness for local charities at 907 E Hwy 30 East in Carroll.
-Donna Red Wing, formerly
of the Human Rights Campaign, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation,
and the radical right's "Most Dangerous Woman in Oregon," campaigned for
Dean in Iowa on December 10-11, 2003. On December 10
she did a lunchtime event at the IMU in Iowa City; on December 11 she did
a GLBT event at Unitarian Universalist Church in Davenport.
-Former Iowa Congressman Berkley
Bedell campaigned around Iowa on December 4-8, 2003.
His schedule: Dec. 4 Sioux City. Dec. 5 Onawa, Denison, Ida Grove,
Meriden. Dec. 6 Storm Lake, Spencer, Spirit Lake, Emmetsburg.
Dec. 7 Pocahontas, Rockwell City, Iowa Falls, Eagle Grove. Dec. 9
Mason City, Manly.
-Gov. Dean's brother Jim Dean
campaigned in Iowa on December 4-5, 2003. Jim Dean
is the first family member to campaign for Dean in Iowa; he lives in Fairfield,
CT and has worked in marketing research at Yankelovich Partners Inc. and
Greenfield Online Inc. His schedule: On December 4 meet with
Democrats at Council Bluffs Library; and attend an Ottumwa Steering Committee
meeting at Dean's Ottumwa headquarters. On December 5 breakfast
with the small business community at Café Mississippi in Guttenberg;
a meeting with Democrats Café Manna Java in Dubuque; a meeting with
Democrats at Bellevue Public Library in Bellevue; a meeting with Democrats
at Maquoketa Public Library in Maquoketa; a meeting with Democrats at TC's
in De Witt; and a meeting with Democrats at Bettendorf Public Library in
Bettendorf.
-December 3, 2003 MeetUps.
-On December 2, 2003 Dean
for America campaign manager Joe Trippi sent out an email to half-a-million
supporters asking them to volunteer or to contribute to Iowa Congressman
Leonard Boswell's re-election campaign, described as "a 36-hour pilot project
to demonstrate how Democrats can [take] back the Congress in 2004." In
less than two days 1,374 Dean supporters raised more than $51,557 for the
campaign. Boswell, who has not endorsed a candidate, appeared as
a guest writer on the campaign's official blog. "Everyone is extremely
impressed with your organization, passion, and drive. I could not agree
with them more," he wrote.
-After campaigning with Dean in
Des Moines, Iowa on the afternoon and evening of November 24 and
at the early childhood policy rollout on the on the morning of November
25, Rob Reiner continued with several events around the state.
On the afternoon and evening of November 25, 2003 he met with early
childhood advocates and area residents at MICA (Mid-Iowan Community Action)
headquarters in Marshalltown; met with area residents at the home of Rick
and Nancy Seidler in Waterloo; visited a day-care worker conference at
Rockwell Collins Children's Center in Cedar Rapids; and met with area residents
at the home of Jay Stolba and Sarah Ordover in Cedar Rapids.
-Dean for America designated November
18, 2003 as "Iowa Victory Day," calling on supporters write letters
to undecided Iowa Democrats.
-Rep. Rob Filner (CA-51) campaigned
for Dean in Iowa on November 9-10, 2003. His schedule:
On November 9 he plans to visit the State Vietnam Veterans' Memorial at
the State Capitol in Des Moines; meet local civil rights leaders at the
Iowans for Dean headquarters in Des Moines; meet veterans at the Iowa Veterans
Home in Marshalltown; and meet Democrats at UAW Local 893 in Marshalltown.
On November 10 he plans to meet Democrats at Bloomers on Grand Coffee Shop
in Fort Dodge; meet students at Iowa Central Community College in Fort
Dodge; meet Democrats at Inspired by Coffee in Carroll; and meet Democrats
at David's Milwaukee Diner in Perry.
-Rep. Neil Abercrombie (HI-1)
campaigned for Dean in Iowa on November 1-3, 2003.
(He arrived in Omaha, NE on the evening of October 31 and overnighted in
Council Bluffs). According to the schedule, on November 1
he attended a labor meeting and then did a pancake breakfast at the Travel
Lodge Restaurant in Council Bluffs; visited the campaign's Des Moines headquarters
where he spoke to Dean for America staff, and then met privately with Tom
Gillespie, president, Iowa Building & Construction Trades; and attended
the Warren County Democrats Fall Dinner at St. Augustine Church in Milo.
On November 2 he met with IUPAT members at Dean for America Des
Moines headquarters. On
November 3 he met privately with Jeff
Vonk, director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, for coffee
at Java Joe's in Des Moines; met privately with Dick Meyers at Prairie
Lights Bookstore in Iowa City; had lunch with undecideds at One Twenty
Six in Iowa City; stopped in at the Iowa City headquarters; attended a
UAW-CAP meeting at UAW Post 893 in Marshalltown; attended a meeting of
the Clinton Labor Congress at Clinton County Democratic headquarters.
(He left from Moline early on the morning of November 4).
-Rep.
Zoe Lofgren (CA-16) campaigned for Dean in Iowa on November
2-3, 2003. On November 3 she spoke to supporters at Dean's Davenport
headquarters.
-Dean visited his 99th county in Iowa on October
22, 2003.
-Dean for America designated October
18, 2003 as "Iowa Victory Day," calling on supporters write letters
to undecided Iowa Democrats.
-On September 27-28, 2003
a group of "Dean's Texas Rangers" helped knock on doors in Iowa
and
New Hampshire. They flew in from Austin, Houston and Dallas on September
27.
-Rep. Neil Abercrombie (HI-1)spoke
to supporters at Dean's Davenport, Iowa headquarters on September
22, 2003.
-National Visibility Day on September 20, 2003,
including activities and events around Iowa.
-On July 2, 2003 at MeetUps
around the country attendees write letters to three Iowans under the "Adopt
an Iowan" program.
-Dean for America airs first TV
ad in Iowa starting on June 17, 2003. Campaign reports
it will spend $300,000 to run a 30-second spot in Iowa through July 2,
2003.
Musicians David Crosby and Graham
Nash participated in an informal reception on behalf of Gov. Dean on
April
7, 2003 at Legion Arts/CSPS in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. (Dean in
VT attended by speakerphone).
-Campaign moves in to headquarters
at 1408 Locust Street in downtown Des Moines, Iowa on March 9,
2003.
