On May 30, 2002, Dean mailed the FEC papers establishing Dean for America,
a presidential campaign committee. Dean for America is headquartered
in Burlington, Vermont. Joe Trippi is national campaign manager.

"DC for Dean is a self-organized,
all-volunteer group that has been active in DC since May, 2003.
DC for Dean serves as an organizational framework for volunteer campaigning
activities and has frequent communication with the Dean for America campaign."
("The campaign is aware of our existence and appreciates
our efforts. They make attempts to keep us up-to-date on relevant issues...")
By January DC for Dean had more than 1,600 people on its e-mail list.
The names were obtained through Meet-ups and community outreach activities.
