Florida Democratic Party State Conference, Orlando, April 12-14, 2002...2 of 2
Sen. Dodd with Eddie Diaz, a candidate for Congress from Orlando.  Diaz, a first time candidate, was shot eight times while making a routine traffic stop as a police officer in February 2000.  The outcome of races in districts such as Diaz's will help determine which party gains control of Congress following the 2002 mid-term elections.  Florida gained two new congressional districts as a result of reapportionment following the 2000 Census;  Republicans control the redistricting process in the state and are trying to set districts that will help them gain as many districts as possible.
