Florida Democratic Party State Conference, Orlando, April 12-14, 2002 ...2 of 3 >>
Gubernatorial candidate Janet Reno talks with delegates at a breakfast sponsored by her campaign.
Note the "IUPAT Families Support Reno" signs.  The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades' District Council 78, with over 2,500 active and 20,000 retired members in Florida, voted to support Reno on Feb. 5, 2002, and the national union followed the next day.  IUPAT, with signs and T-shirt clad members at the Conference, had the most visible union presence here.

However, Reno's major competitor, Bill McBride, had a significant edge in union endorsements, including most notably those of the Florida AFL-CIO, representing 500,000 current and retired union workers (March 23), and the Florida Education Association, with about 122,000 members (January 17).
