Early Oct. 2004--Volunteers Adrienne Larkin of Novato, CA and
Mary Irvine of Berkeley, CA register voters at Wild Oats Natural
Marketplace in Miami Beach just days before the registration
deadline. Larkin, a retired office manager, said she was out in
California and upset that Bush was ahead in the polls when she
determined, "I'm going to go do something." Asked how she ended
up in Florida, Larkin said "Kerry may or may not win Ohio, but he can
win Florida." She arrived in Florida on Sept. 19. Irvine, a
special ed teacher, got involved through Swing the State, a website
launched by Sharif Corinaldi, which set her up with ACT. Larkin
and Irvine estimated they had registered about 150 people in four days. |
