Calling for Real Corporate Accountability
Washington, DC--April 24, 2002.  Rep. Gephardt joined Rep. John J. LaFalce (NY-29), New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and others to call for strong corporate accountability measures in the wake of the Enron scandal.  Later in the day, the House approved the accounting industry reform bill, formally known as the Corporate and Auditing Accountability, Responsibility, and Transparency Act of 2002 (H.R.3763), sponsored by Financial Services Committee Chair Rep. Michael G. Oxley (R, OH-4), in a 334 to 90 vote.  Gephardt backed LaFalce's stronger bill, the Comprehensive Investor Protection Act of 2002 ( H.R.3818).
