2003
-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on May 2-3, 2003.  On May 2 in Columbia he attended the J-J Dinner at Seawell's Restaurant and Jim Clyburn's Fish Fry at the SC Municipal Association parking garage.   On May 3 he did the Meet and Greet at the State Fairgrounds; participated in the Town of Eastover parade; spoke at the Convention; attended the grand opening of the Gephardt for President headquarters; and participated in the Democratic Presidential Debate at Drayton Hall, USC.
 

-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on March 24, 2003.  He participated in an ecumenical prayer breakfast with Rep. James Clyburn at Friendship Baptist Church in Columbia (hosted by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Columbia and sponsored by South Carolina Black Mayors for Gephardt); did a press availability there; attended the dedication ceremony for the I-277 pedestrian overpass with Rep. Clyburn at Lester Drive in Columbia; attended the groundbreaking of the Sumter Intermodal Transportation Center with Rep. Clyburn in Sumter; attended a luncheon and the dedication of the North Main Street Hope Center with Rep. Clyburn in Sumter; and visited with troops at Shaw Air Force Base.
 

-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on the afternoon of February 20, 2003.   (This was the third and final stop on his announcement tour; he arrived from NH).  After he and Rep. John Spratt toured Florence-Darlington Technical College, he then discussed his plan to boost trade and the economy.
 

-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on January 10, 2003.  He did a breakfast with local Democratic and union leaders and activists at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston; met privately with Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr.; met with state legislators and members of the AFL-CIO at the CWA union hall in West Columbia; and did an event on the economy with Rep. John Spratt and the South Carolina Democratic Council at the USC-Lancaster campus in Lancaster.

-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on July 29, 2002.  In Rock Hill, he and Rep. John Spratt spoke with seniors at the York County Council on Aging's senior center about Social Security and prescription drugs; the two focused on the economy at a luncheon hosted by Spratt at VFW 2889 in Rock Hill; Gephardt met with Gov. Jim Hodges in Columbia; Gephardt and Rep. Jim Clyburn held an  economic summit at the Marion County Technical Education Center in Mullins; and Gephardt attended a barbecue at the home of Ronnie and Veretta Sabb in Greeleyville [Williamsburg County] with Clyburn, U.S. Senate candidate Alex Sanders, and other statewide candidates.
 

-Rep. Gephardt visited SC on March 15-16, 2002.  On March 15 he appeared with Rep. Jim Clyburn in Orangeburg.  On March 16 he and Clyburn attended at labor rally for dockworkers in Charleston, and he spoke at the Charleston County Democratic convention at International Longshoreman's Association Hall.
 
 



More 2001-02 South Carolina Activity
The Effective Government put $162,550 or 15.1 percent of its total contributions to candidates and committee into South Carolina.  Most of that came in the last three weeks of the campaign (post-general report, Oct. 17-Nov. 25, 2002) when the EGC poured $132,050 into South Carolina, backing not only over 80 candidates for State House and Senate but also to 25 mayoral candidates in obscure places like Gray Court and Denmark.
