In 2002 Johnson served as senior advisor on Mark Pryor's campaign in Arkansas, helping oust Sen. Tim Hutchinson (R).  He has served as executive director of the DSCC.  He managed Ted Muenster's 1990 Senate race against Sen. Larry Pressler in South Dakota, worked for Bob Kerry in 1988, and Tom Daschle in 1986.  In 1984 Johnson worked in several primary states for Walter Mondale presidential campaign.

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-Detroit), and during the fall campaign he worked for the DNC.  He was a press assistant to Mickey Kantor at USTR and worked with Kantor at the Department of Commerce.  Simmons was an aide on then-Gov. Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.  A Detroit native, he holds a bachelor's degree from Morehouse College and a master's from the Kennedy School of Government (1998).

(Announced August 6, 2003; start August 18, 2003)  In 2002 Elleithee was campaign manager for Janet Reno during her primary campaign for governor and he worked on Bill McBride's general election campaign.  He worked on the Mark Warner for Governor campaign in 2001 and on the Chuck Robb for Senate campaign in 2000.  Elleithee served as New Hampshire press secretary for Bill Bradley's presidential campaign.  In 1998 he worked on the Tom Udall for Congress campaign in New Mexico and the Paul Johnson for Governor campaign in Arizona.
 
 
 
Research Director Jay Howser
Howser most recently served as research director for Paul Wellstone’s 2002 Senate re-election campaign.  In 2000, he worked as a researcher for Al Gore’s presidential campaign in Nashville, TN.  In 1998, Howser was a researcher for Don Siegelman’s successful campaign for governor of Alabama, the first Democrat elected governor in that state since 1982.   Howser served for nearly 18 months in Siegelman’s governor’s office as deputy policy director and senior policy adviser before leaving to go to work for Vice-President Gore.  Howser began his career working in 1996 on a U.S. House race in his home state of Missouri.

From Miami.  Since entering the private sector in June of 1998, Paikowsky has provided strategic planning and fund raising consulting to numerous political campaigns and non-profits throughout the country.  During 2002 election cycle, he was the fund raising consultant to the Bill McBride for Governor campaign and the Buddy Dyer For Attorney General campaign in Florida.  He also worked for federal, state, and local candidates around the country including George Jepsen for Governor in Connecticut, Barbara Christmas for State Superintendent of Schools in Georgia, and the South Carolina House Democratic Caucus.  Paikowsky also served as the Democratic consultant to the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association for the last three years.

(Announced May 1, 2003, started May 7)  VandenBerg, from Pella, Iowa, came to the campaign from her position as caucus director for the Iowa Democratic Party.  In 2002 she worked as the deputy director of the IDP's 2002 Coordinated Campaign.  She served as Rep. Leonard Boswell's communications director after managing his successful re-election campaign in 2000.

New Hampshire State Director Steve Bouchard
(Started March 17, 2003)  In 2002 Bouchard was deputy campaign manager of Tony Sanchez's gubernatorial campaign in Texas.   He was field director for Mark Warner's campaign for governor of Virginia in 2000-2001.  Bouchard worked for Sen. Bob Kerrey's BACK PAC on the national level in 1999 and as NH director in 1988 as Kerrey considered a presidential campaign.  Previously, he served in various capacities in NH Democratic politics, including commnications director for the House Democrats, House Caucus director, chairman of the Hillsborough County Democrats, chairman of the 1st CD for the NHDP, and activity in numerous local and state campaigns.

(Announced June 16, 2003) Anderson was working for Geddings & Phillips Communications at the time of the announcement.  A former executive director of the South Carolina Democratic Party; he designed and oversaw the party's Coordinated Campaign in 2000.  Director of the South Carolina State Democratic Caucus.  Worked six years as a policy and political coordinator in the Florida House of Representatives under Speaker Peter Wallace, Majority Leader Jim Davis, and Minority Leader Buzz Ritchie. Oklahoma State Director Ben Odom
Odom is a Norman attorney.  In 2002 he sought the Democratic nomination to fill the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. J.C. Watts (OK-4) and finished second.  In 1998 he was the Democratic nominee for Congress against Watts and won 38 percent of the vote.  He served as Fourth District Democratic Party chairman, 1991-93.  Odom earned his B.A. from the University of Central Oklahoma, and his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma (1984).
