May 4, 2004. Swift Boat
Veterans for Truth, a special purpose PAC (527 organization), is "a
group of swift boat veterans from the unit in which Kerry served" which
"intends to discuss Kerry's war crimes charges, Kerry's record, and to
request that Kerry authorize the Department of Defense to release the originals
and the complete files relating to his military service and medical military
records." The effort is chaired by Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann, USN
(retired), who served as Commander of Coastal Surveillance Force Vietnam.
Hoffmann said, "I do not believe John Kerry is fit to be the Commander
in Chief of the United States Armed Forces." He described Kerry as
"aggressive but vain" and "a loose cannon," said Kerry had "bugged out
of Vietnam," and was culpable of "gross exaggerations." John O'Neill (above
at podium), who took charge of Kerry's boat shortly after Kerry left, played
a key role in organizing the group. He debated Kerry in 1971.
Launch of this group came one day after the Kerry campaign announced a major advertising push to introduce "John Kerry's lifetime of service and strength to the American people." Kerry's four month Vietnam experience figures prominently in the ads. |
