Swift Boat Veterans for Truth      ...2 of 4 >>
May 4, 2004.  George Elliott (top) spoke at the press conference as did Grant Hibbard and Joe Ponder, and about a dozen others.  Jeff Wainscott addressed Kerry's "shameful behavior after returning from Vietnam."  Bob Elder said, "We lost the war at home, and at home John Kerry was the field general."  Another veteran described the "broad brush of paint that he [Kerry] splattered us with" as a "breach of loyalty and trust."

Note.  The enlarged photo of the swift boat officers in background of the top photo was taken on Jan. 22, 1969 at Tan Son Nhut Air Base outside of Saigon.  At that time, according to Bob Elder, who was one of the group (but cropped off the edge of the enlarged photo) the Paris peace talks were stalled; Le Duc Tho making particular issue of the lack of control of the Cau Mau peninsula at the Southern tip of Vietnam.  The swift boat officers were flown up to Saigon for a meeting with Admiral Zumwalt and General Creighton Abrams.
