Sen. Joe Lieberman Does the Iowa State Fair   ...1 of 9 >>
The Quest
Accompanied by Gov. Tom Vilsack and Iowa First Lady Kristi Vilsack, Sen. Joe Lieberman visited the Iowa State Fair on August 14, 2002.  He started out by conducting a press conference on the porch of the administration building, and then turned his attention to fully enjoying the fair.  "There's not a lot of heavyweight policy discussion going on.  We're having a good time," Lieberman said.  Lieberman particularly wanted to see the famous butter cow.  "Butter is one of my nutritional weaknesses so you might have to restrain me," he warned.  The group made its way slowly up the Grand Concourse, stopping repeatedly to greet and talk with people along the way.  It was not clear whether Lieberman would have enough time to reach the vaunted cow.  Part of the way along the Concourse, Lieberman grumbled that he'd seen "a lot of junk food, some tractors, and not a lot of butter."  Doggedly he pressed on, declaring, "This is our goal, and we will not be deterred from reaching our goal."
