Haynes provided some background in an October 31, 2003 e-mail: 
"I am a volunteer, working close to full time and beyond on the Kucinich campaign.  Our campaign has one parttime paid person, the manager for our office.  Our office opened in September, 2003.  I became the state coordinator in May, 2003.  My background is in nursing and palliative care.  I work as a pediatric palliative care consultant.  I am also very active in Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, the local chapter of the national Physicians for Social Responsibility and the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, Nobel Peace Prize, 1985.  I was president of our local chapter last year and have served as the chair of the Middle East Task Force since 1993.  In that capacity, I have organized and led numerous delegations to the Middle East.  I have limited experience with political campaigns and joined the grassroots efforts to support Dennis Kucinich because I believe his views are most closely suited to creating health for our planet."
