April 10, 2003.  Eleven congressmen representing diverse parts of the country came together to announce their endorsements of Sen. Lieberman in his campaign for president (several of the endorsements had been announced earlier).  Lieberman thanked the members for their support, stating, "This is, in the long march along the road to the White House, this is a very big day for me.  You have joined me in that march and I would say you have given my stride a little bit of a kick, a little wind behind the back."

"He's known here as the conscience of the Senate.  He is known across this country as a man of conviction." "I look at Joe as the fellow next door.  You can always depend upon him.  He has always been there for you and will always be there for you." "...he appeals to the commonsense values of America.  From the Middle East to Middle America, Joe has stood for what's right." "Joe is simply one of the most thoughtful people in government today.  He is quite simply the best candidate for president who is running for president..."

Dennis Cardoza (CA-18)
Cal Dooley (CA-20)

"...I know that Joe Lieberman at the end of his first term as president of the United States will be the prescription drug president..." "...he realizes, like so many people across this country, that religious values cannot be left at home or in the church, but must inform our public policies, that far from asking us to be reactionaries, they demand that we be social progressives." "...he's going to make a great president because he's a man of integrity and strong moral values." "His work on Armed Services over the years, his work on homeland security, has demonstrated that he understands the policies that we need to embrace as a country, that can provide the security that our families demand and need." "For me, what I'm looking for is a leader that represents the mainstream of our country, a leader that can represent the style, the beliefs, the substance, and the approach that the mainstream of our country wants..."
Ellen Tauscher (CA-10)
"This is a man with tremendous compassion who has been one of  the best advocates for our fighting men and women...but at the same time his fierceness on issues of diversity, responsibility, community, and opportunity have made him an advocate for every working member of the country."
