June 11, 2002. Senators Lieberman, Torricelli (D-NJ) and Clinton
(D-NY) and Mary A. Fetchet look on as Senator Schumer (D-NY) speaks at
a rally of families of victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Fetchet is co-chair of a group called Voices
of September 11th. She lost her son, Brad, age 24, who worked
as an equities trader with Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Inc. on the 89th
floor of WTC 2. At the rally Lieberman asked, "How could this have
happened? Was it preventable?"
On Dec. 20, 2001, Lieberman and Sen. McCain introduced a bill to establish a bipartisan National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (S.1867). The Governmental Affairs Committee held a hearing on the legislation on Feb. 7, 2002; the Lieberman-McCain bill was reconciled with a similar bill by Torricelli in a March 21, 2002 mark up session and has been reported to the full Senate. |
