TheNaderFactor.com's Aug. 26, 2004 letter to RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie:

Chairman Ed Gillespie
Republican National Committee
310 First Street, SE
Washington, DC 20003

Dear Mr. Gillespie,

We are a group of passionate Democrats who have a spotted a strange trend sweeping across right-wing Republican circles in key battleground states.  We couldn't believe it at first, but then we saw all the financial and ballot help that Bush supporters were giving Nader in Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Florida, Michigan, and Iowa, and we knew that a new right wing movement was stirring.

Well, we think its only fair after all help Republicans have given Nader - let alone all the help Nader is taking from Republicans - that we do our small part to bring you all together for next week's big party in New York City.

In the spirit of helping make this strange alliance official, TheNaderFactor.com is launching its own signature-gathering efforts to help unify Republicans and Nader.  At 1 pm, on Thursday, August 26, 2004, in front of your very own Republican National Headquarters, we will launch the "Let Nader Speak to his Right-Wing Supporters" petition.

Clearly, if Bush supporters can gather signatures to help Nader qualify for state ballots then we Democrats can at least gather signatures to help get more Republicans to help Nader, who is also working with Republicans who are really trying to help Bush and not Nader, speak at next week's Republican Convention so that Nader can indirectly help Bush (okay, is that logic right, we start getting real confused over here once we get past six degrees of Bush/Nader).

Seriously, we believe Republicans deserve to hear from Mr. Nader.  Remember, right wing Republicans have been trying hard every day to help "kinda of not elect" Mr. Nader.  And, Mr. Nader has been working hard every day to "kinda of not take your money and ballot help."

More importantly, Mr. Gillespie, think of all those poor and tired Republicans, working all day and night helping to "gather" signatures for Nader, standing for hours in front of Republican events asking other Republicans to help a man they have absolutely no interest in supporting, organizing countless of Republicans for Nader rallies in Battleground States (by the way, we would love to tickets for one of these but do we need to sign that oath pledge?), and raising money for Nader by selling tickets to high-priced Nader for Republicans/Republicans for Nader galas (okay, we admit we made this one up).

Mr. Gillespie, isn't that what democracy is all about - helping a candidate like Nader qualify for only key battleground ballots even though you don't agree with anything he believes in, even though no right-wing Republican plans to vote for him, and even though you know it smacks of desperation to help Nader because the right-wing thinks it is the only way to help Bush stay in the White House.  But let's put aside election-year politics for a moment - next week in New York is a time for fun and unity between Republicans and Nader.

Still, we think Republicans and Nader may be up to something a little fishy.  We have our own suspicions.  Come on, between us, why is the right-wing working with a so-called progressive like Nader, and why would Nader take help from people who have tried to destroy everything he has ever fought for?  How does "Bush/Nader 04" sound?  Are we right or not?

All in all, we hope you agree with us that it is important - more important than ever - to bring Bush supporters and Nader closer together.

Mr. Gillespie, won't you please give Mr. Nader a chance to speak to his growing base of right wing supporters?

We look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
