First Six Months of 2003

Sen. Kerry visited NH on June 25, 2003.  He did a meet the candidate event at the Belknap Mill Art Gallery in Laconia and private meetings.

Sen. Kerry visited NH on June 18-19, 2003.  On late afternoon and evening of June 18 he did meet the candidate events at Colburn Park in Lebanon and at Kendal Retirement Community in Hanover.  On June 19 he did a meet the candidate event at the Newport Library Arts Center in Newport; a speech about the economy, hosted by the Concord Chamber of Commerce, at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord; and a house party at the home of Scott and Judy Brody in Windham.

Gov. Dean visited NH on June 16, 2003.  He did the "Politics and Eggs" luncheon at the Bedford Village Inn; attended an open reception at Fisher Scientific in Hampton; and attended a house party at the home of Peter Berg and Janet Prince in Newcastle.

Sen. Graham visited NH on June 14, 2003. He was special guest at a Flag Day breakfast hosted by Manchester City Democrats at the Tower Cafe; did a meet and greet at Calef's Country Store in Barrington; and attended a house party at the home of Rep. Teri. Norelli in Portsmouth.

Rep. Gephardt visited NH on June 13, 2003.  He attended a health care roundtable with teachers and school board officials at Parkside Middle School in Manchester; taped WMUR’s “Conversation with the Candidate” in Manchester; attended a health care roundtable with city officials and firefighters at Portsmouth Fire Station #1 in Portsmouth; and attended a town hall meeting at Fisher Scientific International, Inc. in Hampton.

Gov. Dean visited NH on June 12, 2003.  In the morning, he made a health care "House Call" at Lamprey Health Center in Newmarket.  In the evening he did a meet-the-candidate reception at SEE Science Center in Manchester; and  a "House Call" house party with doctors at the home of Dr. Bob and Marsha Feder in Hollis.

Sen. Kerry visited NH on June 7, 2003 following his appearance at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention in Lowell, MA.  He did a house party at the home of Bill Gilligan and former state Senator Beverly Hollingworth in Hampton and a house party at the Benthiens' home in Goffstown.

Sen. Edwards visited NH on June 2, 2003.  In Concord he appeared on NHPR's The Exchange; met with NEA-NH; and met with SEIU Local 1984-State Employees' Association of NH.  In Manchester met with Teamsters; and did a roundtable discussion at Manchester Central High School, joined by Mayor Bob Baines.  In New Castle he was keynote speaker at the annual meeting and dinner of the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.

Gov. Dean visited NH on May 28-30, 2003.
On May 28 in Manchester he taped WMUR-TV's "Conversation with the Candidate" and then held a press conference in front of the studios to denounce President Bush's tax cut; made his first visit to Dean NH headquarters; and attended a house party at the home of Dr. Joseph and Janet Cataldo.  He attended a spring evening social at the home of Jean Cleary in Derry; and attended a house party at the home of Robert Spiegelman and Truda Bloom in Londonderry.
On May 29 he spoke to seniors at Burns High Rise in Manchester, then stopped at Dunkin' Donuts; did a town hall meeting on health care at Kimball-Jenkins Estate in Concord; and attended a meet-the-candidate reception at Main Street Book Ends of Warner in Warner.  Dean overnighted with a family in Henniker.
On May 30 he did a breakfast with Governor Dean at the Inn at Jaffrey Center in Jaffrey; a Peterborough meet-the-candidate event, with special host Mark Fernald, at RiverMead Auditorium in Peterborough; a lunch in at the Pub on Winchester Street in Keene, with special host (and Pub owner) Mayor Mike Blastos; and a house party at the home of Maggie North in Claremont.

Gov. Dean visited the North Country and Lakes Region in NH for a full day on May 25, 2003.  He met with supporters and activists at the Crapo Memorial Town Building in Sugar Hill; walked through Polly's Pancake House in Sugar Hill; met supporters and activists at the home of Bob & Marie Hughes in Berlin; at The Gibson Center in North Conway; at the Doris L. Benz Community Center in Center Sandwich; and at the Brookfield Town Hall in Brookfield.

Sen. Graham visited NH on May 24, 2003.  He greeted people at Robie's Country Store in Hooksett upon the occasion of its re-opening; attended a meet and greet hosted by Cheshire County Democrats at the Pub Restaurant in Keene; and attended a meet and greet at Kendal at Hanover. 

Sen. Edwards visited NH on May 23-24, 2003. On May 23 he toured the Gorham paper mill in Gorham, then met with millworkers and North Country activists for dinner at Mary's Pizza.  On May 24 he visited several diners in Manchester--Chez Vachon, Blake's, Pappy's and the Merrimack; attended a house party with area activists at the home of Donald and Maureen Manning in Manchester; attended a house party with area activists at the home of Sen. Joe Foster in Nashua; met with activists from the southern tier communities in the club house at the Victorian Park Family Entertainment Center in Salem; attended a house party at the home of Rep. Terie Norelli in Portsmouth. 

Sen. Kerry visited NH on May 19, 2003.  He announced his national service proposal at the Sweeney American Legion Post in Manchester, and spoke on national service at St. Paul's School in Concord and at the installation of the post commander of American Legion Post 63 in Salem.

Sen. Kerry delivered the commencement address at the Franklin Pierce Law Center graduation ceremonies at White Park in Concord, NH on May 17, 2003.

Sen. Edwards visited NH on May 12, 2003.  He attended a fundraiser hosted by Tom Craig and Dave Gottesman at a Manchester law firm and taped the WMUR program. 

Gen. Clark ("I'm not a candidate.") visited NH on May 12, 2003.  In Manchester he spoke at a Rotary Club luncheon, went for a swim and visited the day care center at the YMCA, met with a group of activists at the Merrimack Restaurant, and on the business part of the trip, met with Dean Kamen of Segway.

Sen. Lieberman visited NH on May 9, 2003.  He visited and met with diners at the Corner View Restaurant in Concord; made remarks on his Declaration of Energy Independence at Don Weese's Complete Auto Care/Mobil Station in Concord; visited and met with diners at The Riverhouse Cafe in Milford; and visited and met with diners at the Peterborough Diner in Peterborough.

Sen. Graham visited NH on May 8-10, 2003 following the official announcement of his candidacy in Florida.  On the evening of May 8 he attended a house party at the home of Susan and Bob Dolan in Manchester.  On May 9 he did a Workday, teaching U.S. History, Government and World Cultures at Oyster River High School in Durham from 7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.  He will then met with UNH Democrats in the Memorial Union Building, and in the evening did a meet and greet at the Old Ferry Landing Restaurant in Portsmouth.  On the morning of May 10 he did a meet and greet at Pine Street Eatery in Nashua. 

Gov. Dean visited NH on May 6-7, 2003.  On May 6 he did an interview with the Dartmouth radio statio; had coffee with faculty and staff at Dartmouth; met with senior citizens at Kendall at Hanover retirement community in Hanover; met with College Democrats at Dartmouth; spoke to Dartmouth students at Top of the Hop (Hopkins Center); and met with senior citizens at Waldron Towers in Dover.  (In the evening he spoke to supporters at Mariner's Church in Portland, ME).  On May 7 he joined the AFL-CIO in a press conference at the Legislative Office building in Concord; had lunch with labor leaders at The Barley House in Concord; attended a house party at the home of David and Patrice Boothby in Nashua; and in the evening he joined MeetUp supporters at Martha's Exchange in Nashua.
 
 

Sen. Kerry visited NH on April 25, 2003.  He attended a house party with Seacoast voters at the home of Ellen Bennett in Portsmouth; held a discussion with UNH students and area voters at UNH in Durham; and was the featured speaker at the Carroll County Democrats' Grover Cleveland Dinner in North Conway.

Sen. Kerry visited NH on April 22, 2003. Joined by Dennis Hayes, organizer of the first Earth Day in 1970, he spoke at an Earth Day celebration at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests' Conservation Center in Concord and was the featured speaker at the Derry Democratic Committee fundraising dinner at VFW Post #1617 in Derry.

Sen. Lieberman visited NH on April 20-21, 2003.  On the evening of April 20 he attended two separate house parties in Manchester.  On April 21 he spoke at the Politics & Eggs Breakfast at C.R. Sparks Event Center in Bedford; visited a high school social studies class at Pinkerton Academy in Derry; met with Derry Democratic activists Maryanne's Diner in Derry; and addressed the Nashua Rotary Club at Nashua Country Club.

Gov. Dean visited NH on April 17-18, 2003.  On April 17 he met employees and local residents at Stonyfield Farm in Londonderry, then had lunch with business leaders there; met with attorneys at Devine, Millimet & Branch in Manchester; met with Mayor Baines' Youth Council at Manchester City Hall; and attended a house party at the home of Anne Zachos.  On April 18 he attended an early morning meet the candidate coffee at One Harbor Place in Portsmouth; attended a forum with UNH students, then  had lunch with UNH faculty, at UNH in Durham; and spoke to seniors at Riverwoods at Exeter.

Sen. Graham visited NH on April 17-18, 2003.  On April 17 in Manchester he met with NHDP chair Kathy Sullivan at her law firm; met with Mayor Bob Baines at City Hall, and had lunch with Baines at the Merrimack Restaurant.  Proceeding to Concord, he appeared on Arnie Arnesen's radio talk show and visited with legislative leaders at the State House.  Back in Manchester he spoke to a regional council meeting of the NH National Education Association and did a “Down and Dirty Barbecue with Bob Graham” at the Alpine Club.  On April 18 in Manchester he did interviews with CNBC and WMUR.  In Concord he visited the NHDP office and met the staff; met with John and Mary Rauh, and had lunch at The Barley House with the Rauhs and lobbyist Jim Monahan.

Sen. Hart visited NH on April 16, 2003; late in the morning he spoke on "Restoration of the Republic" at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College in Manchester, and early in the evening he spoke at New England College in Henniker; he also did an ed. board meeting at the Concord Monitor.

Rep. Gephardt visited NH on April 13-14, 2003.  Starting in the early afternoon on April 13 he attended a house party hosted by Sen. Lou D'Allesandro in Manchester; attended a house party hosted by Rep. Terie Norelli in Portsmouth; and attended a house party hosted by Democratic State Committee Member Jennifer Brown in Dover.  Starting early in the morning of April 14 he attended a house party hosted by School Board Member Edward Philpot in Laconia; in the afternoon he participated in a roundtable discussion with business owners and health care employees at GT Equipment Technologies in Nashua; and attended a house party in Nashua hosted by former State Sen. Deborah Pignatelli and her husband Mike.

-Sen. Edwards visited NH on April 7-8, 2003.  On April 7 he had dinner with activists at a Manchester restaurant.  On April 8 he participated in a Meet the Candidate breakfast at Hamblett & Kerrigan in Nashua and discussed the economy with workers at the Shirt Factory in Derry. 

[On April 5, 2003, the NHDP held its convention at Derryfield School in Manchester.  None of the candidates appeared but many had surrogates: Edwards - Elizabeth Edwards and Ed Turlington; Lieberman - Michael Garfolo and Katrina Swett; Dean - Jim Casey and Steve Grossman; Kerry - Joe Keefe; Gephardt - Jim Demers; Graham - Steve Bouchard; Draft Gore - Susan Clark].

Sen. Kerry visited NH on the afternoon of April 2, 2003.  He met with Peterborough area Democrats and Independents in a town hall style meeting at the Peterborough Town Library and participated in a roundtable discussion on access to the internet in rural areas at the Keene Public Library.
 
 

Sen. Lieberman visited NH on March 27-28, 2003. Arriving early evening on March 27, he met privately with supporters in Manchester.  On March 28 he attended a breakfast with veterans at Chez Vachon in Manchester; visited the Derry Fire Station in Derry; and met privately with Mayor Bob Baines in Manchester.

Sen. Kerry visited NH on March 23, 2003.  He spoke at the Manchester City Democrats' St. Patrick's Day breakfast at the Tower Cafe, spoke to activists at Hermanos restaurant in Concord and attended a house party at the home of former state Rep. Mary Ouellette in Nashua.

Rep. Kucinich made his first visit to NH on March 21, 2003.  He spoke at the NH NEA convention at the Center of NH Holiday Inn in Manchester and attended a peace vigil in front of the North Church at Market Square in Portsmouth.

Gov. Dean visited NH on March 21, 2003.  (He had been scheduled to do Politics & Eggs at the Bedford Village Inn, but that was cancelled due to the war in Iraq).  He did an ed board meeting at the Concord Monitor; spoke at the NH NEA convention at the Center of NH Holiday Inn in Manchester; attended at Dean for America house party at the home of Missie and David Schroeder in Bedford; and attended a Dean for America house party at the home of Aasta Torsen and Uli Koch in Greenfield.

Gov. Dean visited NH on March 17, 2003.  He spoke at Mayor Streeter's Wild Irish breakfast at the Sheraton in Nashua; met privately with environmentalists at the Forest Society in Concord; spoke at a meet the candidate luncheon organized by the campaign at the Concord City Auditorium (over 200 attended), followed by a press availability; and at St. Anselm College he spoke in a politics and philosophy class and at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, followed by a press availability.

Rep. Gephardt visited NH on the afternoon and evening of March 15, 2003.  He attended a house party hosted by Ed and Leslee Stewart in Manchester (Leslee is vice chair of the Manchester School Board); did an event highlighting his health care plan at D McLeod Florist in Concord; attended a house party hosted by Katherine Rogers and Michael Bartlett in Concord (Katherine is a Merrimack County Commissioner and Concord City Council member); attended a house party hosted by Peter and Carol Blaisdell in Keene; and attended a house party hosted by House Democratic Leader Peter Burling in Cornish. 

Sen. Kerry was the featured speaker at the Hampton Democratic Committee's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner at the American Legion Hall in Hampton, NH on March 7, 2003.
 
 

Gov. Dean, Sen. Lieberman, and Rev. Sharpton spoke at the NHDP's annual "100 Club" dinner in Manchester, NH on February 27, 2003.  (Sen. Edwards had been scheduled to appear but cancelled so as not to miss votes in the Senate; Amb. Moseley Braun had also been scheduled to appear).
Sen. Lieberman visited NH on February 27-28, 2003.  On February 27 he attended the NHDP reception and spoke at the NHDP 100 Club Dinner at the Center of NH in Manchester. On February 28 in Manchester he attended a forum/coffee reception at McLane Law Firm; toured Harvey Industries; and attended a campaign event and campaigned with Tom Katsiantonis at Grand Slam Pizza.

Gov. Dean visited NH on February 27, 2003.  He attended the NHDP reception and spoke at the NHDP 100 Club Dinner at the Center of NH in Manchester. 

Rev. Sharpton visited NH on February 27, 2003.  He did a town hall meeting at New England College in Henniker and attended the NHDP reception and spoke at the NHDP 100 Club Dinner at the Center of NH in Manchester. 

Rep. Gephardt visited NH on February 20, 2003, the second day of his announcement tour.  (He arrived in NH from Iowa late on the night of February 19).  He spoke at a reception at St. Anselm College in Goffstown and toured and did a health care roundtable at Keystone Press, Inc. in Manchester.

Sen. Edwards visited NH on February 19, 2003.  In the morning he did three events in Manchester; he spoke to Prof. Dante Scala's Public Policy Process class at St. Anselm College; toured GroLen Communications, Inc. and met with employees; and had coffee with Manchester area supporters and activists at Merrimack Restaurant. Proceeding to Concord, he had lunch at the Kimball Jenkins Estate, then toured Page Belting, Inc.  Finally, in Derry he attended a reception with supporters and activists at Depot Square Steakhouse. 

Gov. Dean visited NH on February 16, 2003.  He met with Democrats at the home of Rep. Terie Norelli in Portsmouth; met with Democrats at the home of John Sykes in Hollis; met with Democrats at the home of Rep. Chris Konys in Nashua; attended a Concord house party hosted by Stonyfield Yogurt founder Gary Hirshberg and wife Meg; and attended a house party at the home of Judie Englande and John Echternach in Hennicker.

Amb. Moseley Braun appeared at an event sponsored by American Women Presidents, a political action committee, at the Center of NH Holiday Inn in Manchester, NH on February 16, 2003.  (Middle stop of a three-state tour--Iowa on Feb. 15 and SC on Feb. 17).

Gov. Dean spoke at an economic security forum held by the U.S. Conference of Mayors at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH on February 6, 2003 (all presidential candidates were invited but only Dean appeared).  He then stopped in at the Merrimack Restaurant in Manchester.  Next, Dean went to Keene where he did an ed. board meeting at the Keene Sentinel, and he spoke and answered questions before a group of about 60 people at the Keene Public Library.

Gov. Dean had coffee with and then spoke to New Hampshire State Democratic Committee members at Conant School; he met with energy activists at 2 Ledge Circle; and he attended a house party at the home of Gerri King, all in Concord, NH on January 25, 2003. 

Gov. Dean spoke to the New Hampshire Association for Elderly at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Concord, NH on the morning of January 23, 2003.

Sen. Lieberman visited NH on January 22-23, 2003.  (Note the first scheduled event, a planned meeting with students at St. Anselm's College, was cancelled due to a change in the Senate vote schedule).  On January 22, Lieberman visited with patrons and then met privately with a group of local Democratic activists at Merrimack Restaurant in Manchester; met privately with a group of local Democratic activists at Smith-Weiss, Shepard & Durmer in Nashua; and attended a house party at the home of Mike Garafalo, chairman of the Salem Democratic Town Committee, at his home in Salem.  On January 23 he spoke to members of the Portsmouth Sunrise Rotary Club at Redhook Brewery at Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth and visited with patrons and local Democratic activists at Caffenio Coffee Shop in Concord.

Gov. Dean visited NH on January 22, 2003.  He spoke to residents at Heritage Heights Retirement Community in Concord; spoke to a group of business and economic academicians at UNH in Durham; and attended a house party at Katie Wheeler's home in Durham. 

Rev. Sharpton visited NH on January 17, 2003.  He flew into Concord early in the morning; met with local clergy and community members at the Cat & Fiddle Restaurant [Concord Monitor reported crowd of 15 people]; met with Paul Stokes, president of the State Employees' Association of New Hampshire SEIU Local 1984, at the union's headquarters.  Proceeding to Manchester, he met with NHDP chair Kathy Sullivan at Wadleigh, Starr & Peters, P.L.L.C. (her law firm); met with Mark McKenzie, president of the NH AFL-CIO, at the law firm.  Sharpton spoke with student leaders and media at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College and then delivered a speech in the Assembly Hall.  Returning to Concord, he met with state Sen. Sylvia Larsen at the State House; and finally, he met with NEA New Hampshire executive director Terry Shumaker and president Karen McDonough at the union's offices, before flying back to New York.

Sen. Kerry visited NH on January 10-11, 2003.  On January 10 he had lunch with Sen. Sylvia Larsen at her home in Concord; attended a house party hosted by Rep. Peter Burling at his home in Cornish; and did a meet and greet with Dartmouth students.  On the morning of January 11 he participated in the Waterville skiing rodeo, a charity event, at Waterville Valley Ski Resort.
