October 14, 2002--Manchester, New Hampshire. After rallying the
campaign staffers and volunteers, Sen. Lieberman fielded reporters' questions.
"I've made very clear that out of gratitude and personal loyalty if Al
Gore runs again for president, I will not. If he doesn't I probably
will," Lieberman stated. Asked if he found that situation frustrating,
Lieberman responded:
"I don't find it frustrating. To me it's just the way it is. I love traveling around to the states as I'm doing. It gives me an opportunity to speak out on issues that matter to me. I made a decision early this year that I would try to do most everything a potential presidential candidate would do in this year except decide to run, so that I would be ready if Al Gore decides not to run, which he told me is a 50-50 possibility--straight up as he put it."Lower photo: Lieberman talks with Fox News' Carl Cameron as ROCPAC political director Joe Eyer looks on. |
