David Bacon, candidate for governor of New Mexico
"The Green Party is the party of the new economy.  The only way to move to a new economy is to move completely away from the old corporate structure into a clean local economy that becomes very self sufficient and very supportive of local structures."

"I drive a VW that runs on vegetable oil and I also have the first net metered solar array system in New Mexico.  That means you can run your meter backwards when the sun's shining and you're producing more power than you're using.  I was a founding member of the Permaculture Credit Union.  I think like other Greens here I believe in doing things.  I put my money where my mouth is."

Bacon is president of the Southwest Energy Institute; his running mate is Kathy Sanchez, a native Tewa from San Ildefonso Pueblo.  Three other candidates are on the ballot for governor: former congressman, UN Ambassador and Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson (D), businessman and freshman state Rep. John Sanchez (R), and Indian rights activist Russell Means (I).
