October 8, 2002--"After what happened during the Florida primary on September 10th, we are not going to stand on the sidelines while a third Florida election is bungled," stated DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe.  McAuliffe discussed the party's "Promote and Protect" program, being run out of the DNC's Voting Rights Insitute headed by Donna Brazile.  He demonstrated a sophisticated toll free assistance line.  And, he vowed there would be "thousands of lawyers on the ground" to ensure voters are not intimidated.
