South Carolina Democratic Party State Convention

Columbia, SC, May 3, 2003--After a forceful speech by Dick Harpootlian, outgoing party chairman, Sen. Fritz Hollings addressed the Convention.  One of the questions on the minds of South Carolina Democrats whether Hollings, now 81 years old, will seek re-election in 2004.  Following Hollings' speech, delegates heard four-minute speeches from each of the nine presidential candidates.  A gong served notice to candidates who exceeded the time limit.  Later the delegates selected Joe Erwin as the new state chairman.
