Kerry/Edwards in Iowa
Both the Kerrys and the Edwardses had put a tremendous amount of time in Iowa during the caucus campaign; starting in 2001 Sen. Kerry spent about 81 campaign days in the state, and Sen. Edwards about 77 campaign days.  The Kerry campaign started its general election effort with a rally in Des Moines on April 25, 2004.  Kerry travelled in eastern Iowa on July 4 as part of a "Celebrating the Spirit of America" bus tour and again a month later on a post-Convention "Believe in America" bus tour.  The campaign focused much attention on Iowa in the closing month, as the four Democratic principals made a total of 19 trips to the state.  These included a rare joint appearance for a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on October 14.  Elizabeth Edwards spent a lot of time campaigning in Iowa.
