LOUISIANA 9 Electoral Votes

Sen. John Kerry got his campaign here started in proper style, chowing on crawfish at Deanie's Restaurant in the French Quarter during a visit shortly before the March 9 primary.  There were a couple of other visits in April and May and the campaign went up with advertising starting on May 4.  But for all this activity, the Bush campaign had enough confidence to deploy its executive director, Jason Hebert, to Colorado in mid-June 2004.  Eventually, the Democratic campaign pulled its resources out of Louisiana -- there were no visits by the principals after Kerry's speech to the National Baptist Convention on September 9 and no advertising in the Fall.  The Republican principals made a few sporadic visits, many of which were fundraising related.  Democrats were disappointed by the decision to pull out but volunteers nonetheless continued to work long hours through to Election Day.
