In the governor's race Jon Huntsman, Jr. (R) defeated Scott Matheson, Jr. (D) by 531,190 votes to 380,359 votes (57.7% to 41.3%). Sen. Bennett was re-elected by 68.7% to 28.4%, with 2.9% going to two other candidates.  In the competitive 2nd CD, Jim Matheson (D) defeated John Swallow (R) by 54.8% to 43.2%, with 2% going to other candidates.

2000 Overview
Solidly Republican Utah went solidly for Bush-Cheney, producing a plurality of 312,043 votes (40.49 percentage points).  Bush carried all 29 counties.  Democrats did, however, pick up a House seat in the 2nd district.
