CANVASS SCRIPT - FOR BASE VOTERS
Intro
"Hello my name is (your name).  Can I speak to (Name)?  I am with America Coming Together, an organization which is working to elect progressive candidates from the White House, to the state house to the courthouse."

"Over the next six months, we're going to be visiting and getting to know your community; encouraging; you and your neighbors to get educated, involved, and to vote on November 2."

"Do you know whether you will be supporting George Bush, John Kerry or Ralph Nader for President?"

If voter expresses support for one of the candidates or is leaning towards a candidate:

"How certain of your support are you and if you would consider supporting another candidate who would you choose?"

If voter expresses strong support for John Kerry:
"Would you be interested in volunteering with America Coming Together.  We are a large grassroots organization dedicated to electing progressives at all levels of government, and mobilizing millions of people to vote around the critical issues facing our country."

"Is there anyone else in your home who is not registered to vote?"

If voter expresses that he or she is undecided:

"Thank you for your time.  I'd like to leave you some information about the important issues that will be decided in the upcoming elections.

I'd like our national, state and local governments to protect the middle class rather than special interests.  Please take a look at this important infomration.  Somone from ACT will be following up with you in the near future."

To Finish

"Each time we return to your neighborhood we're going to be focusing on a different issue.  So that we can have the information for the issue most important to you, can you tell me what issue you most care about?"  (the economy, the war on terrorism, the war in Iraq, healthcare, education, moral values, or the environment)

REMEMBER - ALWAYS LEAVE LITERATURE WITH EACH PERSON YOU TALK WITH.
