NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin

NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin executive director, Kelda Helen Roys pauses for a minute at the organization's office in Madison.

NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin, with a membership of more than 4,000 Wisconsinites, ran volunteer phone banks and canvasses for endorsed candidates and sent out press releases and voter guides; however, the main focus was to elect state-level endorsed candidates.

NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin participated in the America Votes/ACT coalition from its beginning, and led Election Protection efforts within  the coalition.  For this, NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin recruited 300-plus volunteers statewide, trained them as poll watchers, outfitted them with Nextel two-way phones, and assigned them a manager for Election Day.  This provided constant contact into 147 targeted polling locations statewide.  These efforts documented thousands of instances of voter intimidation tactics, electronic voting machine snafus, and excessively long lines.
