Meetup at Visions in Washington, DC  ...1 of 2 >>
June 4, 2003--"This is happening in hundreds of cities tonight."  Over a hundred people came to Visions for this Dean Meetup.   Thus far, over 30,000 people have signed up at Dean Meetups nationwide, providing compelling evidence of evidence of Dean's ability to mobilize  grassroots support.
Scott Heiferman, co-founder and CEO of Meetup, was in town for the Campaign for America's Future's "Take Back America" conference and stopped in at the meeting.  A Meetup staffer traveling with Heiferman stated, "It's been a beautiful symbiotic relationship.  He [Dean] has helped put our company on the map and we've helped put Dean on the map."  Meetup's primary source of revenue is venues that pay to be listed as Meetup sites, typically from $30 to $100.  Organizations pay, and in fact the Dean campaign is a client of Meetup.  Additionally Meetup offers a premium service.
