July 24 and July 26, 2003--Convention Manager Bill Harris
has worked on Republican Conventions going back to 1984. He
described his job as "making sure all the plans are properly made, all
the organization is in place for the delegates to come do their job."
"[T]he complexity of New York brings challenges but also great opportunities,"
Harris said.
"We're actually, I think, doing pretty well. We're a little over a year out from the convention, and I think that we're working very hard with the host committee in New York and trying to start our design plans, doing our engineering studies, working on preliminary phases of transportation planning, working with hotels and venues. So we feel very good about where the process is right now." |
